There are two separate areas available with showers and toilets.  For groups of 30 or less you will be required to use Whatihua for overnight sleeping.

Tikanga Whakamārama / Whakaritenga

GENERAL

To ensure that Kahotea Marae remains a safe and functional venue for all, the following whakaritenga are provided.

  • All Whakaritenga / Tikanga Whakamārama outlined below must be observed by all hirers/users of the Marae.

  • Kahotea Marae is a drug-free, drama free, and violence-free zone.

  • No gang insignia.

  • Kahotea Marae has a designated ‘Smoking / Vaping Area’.  All other areas are ‘AUAHI KORE’, including our Carpark. We are situated in the high-risk fire area; therefore, we ask that all smokers dispose of butts in the cans provided.

  • Unruly behaviour on our site will not be tolerated. The person designated as the responsible hirer must not allow any illegal activities to occur in/or outside the Marae during the hireage period.

  • For Health and Safety reasons, No Animals are permitted within the Marae grounds.  There is, however, an exception made for guide dogs or officially registered animals of the NZ Police.  Please ensure that this information is disclosed to our Booking Officer before arrival at the Marae. This will ensure misunderstandings do not happen.

  • Kahotea Marae takes no responsibility for loss or damage to the hirer’s property and/ or equipment during their stay.  Our Ahikā will endeavour to contact the hirer if any property or equipment is left behind. The return of any items would be at the hirers’ cost. 

  • Furniture, chattels or any other equipment is Not Permitted to leave our Marae grounds.

  • For Health reasons, Kahotea Marae requires all our hirers to ensure that their rōpū uses sheets on our mattresses - even when using sleeping bags.  Again for Health reasons, we do not provide pillows.

  • Noise levels must be kept to an acceptable limit at all times.

  • Please treat our wharenui with respect.

  • Photos of tūpuna are not to be moved or photographed.

  • No running, climbing or playing with balls is allowed in the wharenui 

  • No hooks, pins or other instruments to be used that can cause damage to the walls and ceiling of any of the buildings

  • No food to be consumed in our wharenui.  Water is permitted but must be in a sealed bottle with a lid. 

  • All parking is to take place in the car park area at the front of the Marae  

TANGIHANGA PRIORITY

Tangihanga takes priority over every booking to ensure those who lose loved ones can be supported in their time of need.  Unfortunately, funerals cannot be scheduled; therefore, the Marae must cancel a booking at short notice when a death occurs.  In the event that your booking is cancelled unexpectedly, you will be notified.  You will receive a full refund of your payment within 48 Hours.
